When you live in an old and seemingly run-down space, there are a few things to consider. First and foremost, you've got to keep it clean. When the space is old to begin with, doing everything in your power to keep it clean and presentable is *critical* to the environment. When the space is very clean, all the various "faults", things like ripples in the plaster, scuffs on the hardwood, and cracks all tend to blend harmoniously to add depth and character.
I've got to decide on a colour scheme and then get down to the business of painting. I figure I can break the whole apartment down into "projects" with timeframes, or I could do it all at once I haven't decided yet. I've got to price paint and work out a home improvement budget i.e. X number of dollars out of every pay until it's done. I'm excited to be starting a new project.
